That's better
by Bruce Ure at 23:35 19/06/06 (Blogs::Bruce)
I just upgraded the RAM in my Mac Mini from 512 measly megs to 2 gutsy gigs, and it made a huge difference.

Which was nice.

The inside of the thing was packed as tight as a laptop, as you'd expect, really. So RAM changing is not a procedure for the faint of heart or the heavy of hand, but with care it's an easy half hour.

And I've discovered this, which is also nice:

tell application "Finder"
say "My dog has no nose."
say "Really? How does it smell?"
say "It doesn't, it's got no nose."
end tell

Fun fun fun.

Adding a BlueTooth module to an iBook is 2 hours work. I'm surprised the Macmini takes so long for RAM though.

Both the iBook and Intel iMac are straightforward for adding RAM, though apparently much more problematic at replacing disks.

Bloody hell, where did YOU spring from?? Nice to hear from you!

It was only half an hour because I was doing it eggshells. I'm sure it could be got down to under 10 minutes -- probably 5.

So how the devil are you? And where & when do we meet up?

But of course!

I wish they'd made it slightly larger, so it could have a full size hard drive, since that's definitely a big bottleneck.

But then they'd lose sales of their higher spec machines.

I believe a mutual Canadian will be along soon and I'll be along then.

I'm doing well ta. I hope you are..

FWIW when I but the BT in my iBook it only took 2 hours for a similar reason. I wanted to inflict no damage..
