Anyone in the market for a good LED torch could do worse than take advantage of this offer from Maplin.

It's an 'LED Lenser Professional V2', takes 3x AAAs, is ludicrously bright, and £15 off until 20th Feb while stocks last.

That still makes it 25 quid, but I reckon it's a bargain.

I'm intending to strap 4 to my bike, because it's WAY brighter than my bike lights, and they are 44 quid each in the UK.

So I've just ordered another 3.

Does it shed a useful pool of light, or is it one of these things that's bright but only in one direction? -- simon

Using your trusted fist-width technique, the main beam area makes a fist width when the torch is held on my head. There's the inverse of a penumbra which is about another fist width in total, i.e. half a fist-width either side. What it looks like in proper darkness I have yet to see. --
