I just watched the first of the School Dinners re-runs, having only heard word-of-mouth about it before, and he has gone way up in my estimation, which he'll doubtless be dead chuffed about.
I also find the very obvious affection between him and his wife very touching, in an envious kind of "why can't my relationship be like that" sort of a way. Indeed I wrote at length about this recently, and then didn't publish it. but perhaps I'll dig it out.
