Well, holding down the Apple key while clicking and holding on the title bar of an inactive window will let you drag it around without making it active, but I don't know of anything that'll let you click on an inactive window's buttons/links etc other than the utility mentioned in the last post in that thread which enables a 'focus follows mouse' style behaviour.
