The cloud over Sidbury has gone!
by Simon at 17:37 06/06/07 (Blogs::Simon)
*Finally* Google Earth's been updated with a new set of photos covering Sidbury Hill.

That dratted cloud that has been there since forever is now longer in the way!

Still really poor resolution over the Chutes though, which is a shame.

FlashEarth is fine for keyhole views of places, but it's got nothing on Google Earth for sussing long distance alignments.

I find myself wondering whether Google are finding it difficult to source better quality photos, perhaps because some other company might have gained exclusivity through deft negotiation.

Someone with as much money to splash about as google surely ought to have better photos than they have, I totally agree. They could launch their own satellites, FHS.

I think the majority of the pics are taken from planes, rather than satellites, aren't they?

But the point is valid nonetheless.

Mind you, you're not allowed to fly below 30,000' across Salisbury Plain according to the byelaws.

Perhaps what's needed is a very tall tripod...
