I-Tunes
by David Crowson at 17:42 25/04/04 (Blogs::Dave)
I've never managed to get i-tunes working properly (it won't play tracks)

But after 4 months of not working it has decided to work

Weird.

Maybe Windows updater's removed some malware aspect of its media player, now that the EU have found against them ;-)

I have never had a problem with i-tunes for windows XP. I wonder if its your extraordinary large play list that causes the problems.

ITunes 4.5 now available from Apple.

This might sort you out.

I fired up itunes, did help, check for updates and it said 4.2 is the current version...so I go to apple.com and lo and behold 4.2 is not the latest version, duh.

Re: I-Tunes David Crowson - 17:50 28/04/04
OK, 4.5 does not fix the problem...however

if I stream radio@ombomb in winamp then play a track in itunes and turn off the winamp stream then it seems to work OK for a while..

weird huh....

Oh and 4.5 has 'Party Shuffle' mode .....neat, but 5 years late ;-p

Re: I-Tunes Nic Jackson - 11:50 29/04/04
Hmm, then i wonder if its down to the hardware.

I know that sometimes a media player will lock out the soundcard so other programs that need to use the soundcard device wont be able to (winamp definately does this).

I wouldnt be supprised if there is no detection on the Itunes software so if you have winamp open (and it takes sole ownership of the sound device) then try to use ITunes it has a distinct possibility it will crash or do something wacky.

Also because ITunes has CD burining in built a conflict could be caused here.

You could update your soundcards drivers, this may solve things but i would guess that if winamp is open at the same time as itunes then you will get problems.

Also thinking back to playlist size, i used to use ITunes on my Mac and i have quite a considerable sized playlist (so the ladies tell me) so i doubt this could be a problem. I am assuming that Apple ported Itunes to PC with the same care and attention of the Mac.

Is 4.5 worth the upgrade ?

I've tried itunes wihtout any other media stuff running, it doesn't work.

>of the sound device) then try to use ITunes >it has a distinct possibility it will crash >or do something wacky.

the opposite, it only works when I'm playing a stream first.

>You could update your soundcards drivers,

They are fully up to date

>this may solve things but i would guess that >if winamp is open at the same time as itunes >then you will get problems.

nope, you can play stuff in both at the same time.

>Is 4.5 worth the upgrade ?

It's worth what it cost :)

Re: I-Tunes Nic Jackson - 13:45 29/04/04
Wierdly enough ive just started i tunes on my work laptop. Its knackered sound didnt play properly. I think its because ive used up all the memory with other applicaitons. Itunes works fine on my personal laptop
