Re: Zoom into Earth from anywhere Simon - 16:58 11/05/05
It's fscking Windoze-only, what a pain.

This is just what I've wanted for ages - but do I want it enough to spend £300 on a peecee just to run it....?

... no.

Ah, but I don't have an ATI Radeon UberSpurt 3D Honk-Tweetmaster 7500 with extra pudding, nor an nVidia GeForce 2 UltraBehemoth Bang-Bang WhangCommander, nor yet an Intel Extreeeeeeeeme Graphics 2 ScreechBomberSurprise (rev. 3.6)

I feel so deprived.

Re: Zoom into Earth from anywhere Simon - 17:44 11/05/05
... apparently I have an ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 - which is listed on the World Wind Wiki site compatibility page as 'ok'.

Hmmm - maybe it is worth a go under emulation after all.

any radeon above 7500 will also allow you to play Doom3, FarCry etc...not that they're really your cup of tea.....

I'd stake large sums of cash in easy to carry bags that you can't run any of those things on Windows XP on Virtual PC on OSX, which is what Simon has got.

VPC really doesn't like fast graphics. Not surprising really, since fast graphics rely on DirectX, which is not supported.

I'll also bet it can't run, as it needs the microsnot .Net framework installed first, ick.

No chance. 'OK' in native XP maybe, but no chance in emulation.

I will buy an especially big hat just to take off to you if you can get this working under VPC.

This is not much short of sheer sex. I am absolutely stunned.

Can you dial in coordinates?

A screenshot of flying towards Allt y Gadair (map) from the north would be great.

Did you manage to dl the mail :), ahem

Some of the images might not be fully resolved as it takes ages for the prog to interrogate the sattelites (or their archive)and I couldn't be bothered to wait that long (well it was 4am:) and as you can see there are different types of image (Landsat visual 1+2, pseudo colour and a few others)

right I'm off to Everest :)

Yeah - and the view is recognisable, although I think the orographic relief is slightly exaggerated.

Now I want 3D glasses :-)
