They are great and I use them for many things but I specifically want something that's there all the time... at-a-glance, not at-a-click. It's for my PVR and I want to be able to see without having to get up and go over to the machine and click something. Especially as the PVR is a Mini, with a tiny hard disc, and it records raw digital telly stream -- great for quality but not very efficient.
