I think you are right. I wonder if you could enmesh their APIs and create a Frankenstein 3rd party product :)
One problem (of, er, many) would be manually going through each map to decide what was 'best'.
Kent is much better than GE's green and grey blob-matter.
The res doesn't seem as high as GE in New Malden but perhaps GE merely interpolates the higher resolutions.
Not tried the 3d stuff yet.
