TSMC got there first, followed quickly by IBM, Intel, TI, et. al. It's called the 90nm fabrication process. Electrical connections so narrow that the damn signals jump the tracks. Crosstalk is one reason for the current speed bump in chip production. Probably not what Sun has in mind however.
Apple should buy Sun and sell the hardware business to IBM. Solaris 10 and its associated gubbins would be very useful for the world's largest Unix distribution.
