What I found amusing was that they managed to email a random sample of the data they were going to send subsequently on CD.

Ironically, since that probably never left the GSI mail system in this instance the email was actually a more secure mechanism.

Oh, and the NAO's side of things indicates that they were primarily concerned with reducing the size of the data (by omitting the sensitive stuff), since they were complaining that the last time it'd come as 100 ZIPped files.

It appears they were less concerned with the privacy aspect than the hassle involved in dealing with the whole datadump being supplied chopped up into bits.

Very revealing.
