I'm currently reading "Stongehene People" by Aubrey Burl, which is trying to give a view of the society that may have built Stonehenge.

Very interesting, not least because he mentions (on p66 of the hardback edition) that they'd have noticed the Sun never rose further north than Sidbury Hill. First reference I've seen to the idea that Sidbury and Stonehenge might have been intervisible at the time, other than in Alfred Watkins' work.

Also some very interesting thoughts on the original alignment of the monument being lunar, rather than solar.

And I didn't know there was evidence of a large timber structure in the centre of Stonehenge, pre-dating the stone circle.
