Wavy Gravy once asked a Zen Roshi, "What happens after death?"

The Roshi replied, "I don't know."

Wavy protested, "But you're a Zen Master!"

"Yes," the Roshi admitted, "but I'm not a dead Zen Master."

RAW suffered from polio as a child, and in his later years was suffering from complications of post-polio syndrome. Just a few months ago, he was broke and facing mounting medical bills. Appeals by friends on the Internet raised enough money to cover the bills, hopefully easing the pain in his final months. At the very least, he got to know that there are very many of us who love his writing. Ironically, as an opponent of the war on drugs, medical marijuana would have more effectively (and probably more cost effectively) eased his pain and suffering. As he once said, "I don't know why the government wants me to be in pain."
