That particular scam still works in the land of Patriot 2. Most US cops don't know what the UK license is, stay around for a little story then wave you on your way rather than do the paperwork.
Last time I was stopped I did actually have a local license, but since he only asked for 'your license' I figured it was my choice which to present. :)
