Re: File Sharing No Threat To Music Sales
by Nic Jackson at 14:58 02/04/04 (Blogs::Dave)
I was lounging about the flat (sorry working) this morning watching BBC news / breakfast thing.

It had the guy who released Mad World the recent Christmas number one. The only reason the record companies released the track was because people who had downloaded it and wanted to buy it. The track was recorded over three years ago as part of a film soundtrack and they had no intention to release it as single or album

So if the only people who wanted it were those who had downloaded it how come it was number one across europe.

Garry Jules said himself if what the record companies were saying about download was true, then Mad World would have been the biggest selling single the industry has ever known.

Are music sales declining (lets assume they actually are) because of downloads or is it because the record companies are pushing the same old tired cr@p that no body wants to buy.
