Dynamics of online communities
by Hugo van der Sanden at 14:57 05/06/04 (Forum::Online Communities)
A couple of articles by Clay Shirky

Two interesting reads from last year, a brief essay and an elaboration of the material given as a talk at last year's Emerging Technologies conference:
Social Software and the Politics of Groups
A Group is its Own Worst Enemy

Fascinating reading! Simon - 19:01 05/06/04
Nice to see PLATO's invention being used as the reference date for the start of social software.

These are really interesting articles, I am going to search more about this.

Hugo, I strongly recommend you take a look at:

From Usenet to Cowebs by Leug and err somebody else!

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/1852335327/ref=sr_aps_books_1_1/202-3848422-9668608

and:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0415191408/qid=1086794520/sr=1-2/ref=sr_1_2_2/202-3848422-9668608

There are several other interesting ones, but I think you could easily write a book like this yourself... actually, perhaps that is something you and Simon could look into? I've looked at one or two online community design books and they were not very good.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0201874849/qid=1086794408/sr=1-4/ref=sr_1_2_4/202-3848422-9668608

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0471805998/qid=1086794408/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_2_1/202-3848422-9668608

Regards,

scott

Just a quick observation. It is simpler to quote Amazon references up to and including the "ASIN" only.

For example:
