Napster
by Nic Jackson at 12:59 21/05/04 (Blogs::Nic)
Napster lives and believe it or not its actualy quite good.
I've been playing with napster for the last couple of days. Sceptical at first, of course i was, but i will hold my hands up in the air and say im wrong.

For £10 per month you get access to 500,000 tracks you can stream them from the server or download to your computer and play offline (better quallity playback).

The stuff they have in there is quite astounding, im currenly tapping my foot to White Man in Hammersmith Palais, which isnt on the UK CD i have (f#cking great track too). Next i have they might be giants - flood queued up, and some pop will eat itself.

Im like a kid in a sweet shop this is great !!!!

OK you can steal this stuf but, i do think that if you like music you should contribute something to the author.

I think this is a great service so far and after my 7 day trial i think im going to keep it.

Give me the option of paying my TV licence or Napster and i would take Napster.

Check it out before you flame me : )

One teeny problem... Simon - 13:22 21/05/04
We're sorry, Napster is not currently compatible with your operating system.

Gosh, is it 1995 all over again? Is that a dependency on Windows Media Player I see before me...

$evilplan_excuse = 'Internet Explorer is an integral part of Windows';

$evilplan_excuse =~ s/Internet Explorer/Windows Media Player/;

Yes you do need windows media player 9.

I assume this is because of the WMA secure audio format, i bet its what it uses.

Its worth an install, im just listening to Pop will eat itself Def ' Con One i forgot how good this shit is.

The other teeny problem... Simon - 13:59 21/05/04
I don't have any kind of Windows machine other than an emulated (VirtualPC) Windows98 running under MacOS9.

It's a pity they haven't done a Mac client (OS9 or OSX) because I was very interested in taking a look at their service.

BTW: WMA 'Secure' Format - until we stop listening to music with analogue ears, there's no such thing as a secure music format.

Ah, what a bummer.

I didnt realise there was no mac client, hey you could update to the new version of virtual PC for osx i think you can get XP for that.

It might be worth persevering with ive just found some Ride, and Carter USM.

And of course if you have an application that records like a loop back interface you can convert anything to MP3 horay for total recorder. Dave its digital download day 2
