I got an sms early Thurs evening alerting me to the incident, and have been talking with a friend at IMC UK. I don't have much more background info than IMC have already published as they are being stone walled. From private mail late Fri:

<< people making enquiries with various agencies are coming up blank......

(one off the record uk police dept comment was "we're as mystified about this as you are...")

FBI office in DC - nowt

Press Office US embassy in london -no idea

UK London Metropolitcal Police - nowt

MET press office - refered to serious fraud office - no idea

National Crime Squad Unit - not one of our jobs

Serious Crimes Unit - no idea

Computer Crimes Unit - "not involved in this particular operation"

City police - no response

US Dept of Justice - no response despite repeated requests... >>

BTW, it seems Rackspace only acted because of a US court order (which includes a gagging clause). They have in the past been fairly supportive of IMC and from copies of mail exchanges I've seen between the two parties, they are pretty embarrased and annoyed by the whole thing. The confiscated servers (actually just their hard disks were taken away) are not thought to contain anything particularly sensitive or useful to the Feds.

Sheesh - time to re-read Kafka's "The Trial".

Fat chance of getting the mainstream media to take an interest, I guess.
