Nominet fuck-pigs

Christ alive, talk about obstructive.
They're going to cancel bdge.co.uk and re-release it to the public domain unless I can give them an official document stating that ownership of the domain was transferred to me before bdge Ltd was dissolved.

And it can't be from me as sole director to me as jo public, because the company no longer exists so I can't act in an official capacity for it.

I WAS the bloody company. Sole director, shareholder, employee. No-one else is contesting ownership of the domain.

So my lucky old accountant gets to write a letter confirming that ownership passed to me before dissolution, and lucky old me gets to pay the bill.

I asked them whether they check that the accountant actually exists, and if so was actually the accountant for the company at the time, and they don't (though they might now of course).

What a ludicrous waste of time.

Ah - you've fallen foul of them obeying the law, I'm afraid.

The domain was an asset of an incorporated legal entity (BDGE Ltd). Any undisposed assets remaining after a company ceases to exist become the property of the Crown (how d'ya think they got so rich in the first place - basically they've got enough space to be able to say "We'll have that if you don't want it any more" to *everything* - land, titles, you name it).

It's £500 minimum and many, many months to get it back from the Crown, so any bill less than that from an accountant who's prepared to confirm it was transferred (as an asset) to you *prior* to the company closing is worth it.

I'm going through a similar process with W*b*a*t*c right now - transferring all domains in the *.uk TLD from there to NVC before the old company is finally struck off the register.

It's a PITA if you don't know about it in advance, I grant you, but it's not really Nominet's fault that the law is inconvenient.

Bah! My righteous indignation has crumbled into sheepishness. I shall call off the dogs.

Thanks, very useful.
