BBC funds new Stonehenge dig
by Simon at 15:10 31/03/08 (Blogs::Simon)
Timewatch and the BBC are funding the first dig inside the stone circle at Stonehenge for decades.

I believe there was a separate project proposed to re-excavate one of the Aubrey holes into which previously discovered cremation burial remains had been reburied in the C20th. They were judged useless at the time - no way to date them - but were put back in the ground in bags for future archaeologists.

It'll be a shame if this Timewatch project prevents that other project going ahead, because with advanced techniques we could still (just about) isolate each of those bags of cremation remains - but if they're left underground for much longer we won't be able to.
